Wood Duck chicks and mama watching out for a soaring Red-tailed Hawk

Yet another drama.  I was thrilled to finally get a chance to photograph some Wood Duck chicks, but there was an added bonus of them watching out for the Red-Tailed Hawk soaring overhead. It was just precious to see the chick looking up too: kind of a two-for-one deal.

The first thing I saw was lots of males around with not a whole lot to do.  They are now all fully out of breeding plumage.

While photographing the chicks, I noticed that this mama and chick started looking up:

Richard - I have lost count of all the "life birds" I have seen since becoming a wildlife photographer. It is one of the many thrills of the activity!

Nancy, beautiful pics, as always! Enjoy your commentary too. Not being a 'birder', I had to figure out what you meant by "life bird." (At first I thought it was a typo, but that didn't make sense, as they all looked "live" to me. OK, you can laugh at my expense.) Now I understand... How many "life birds" are you up to by now?
